The IBPS exists to promote all dark plants, 2750 researched so far. Members receive free advice, a quarterly newsletter, discounts on the only comprehensive book on dark plants, Karen Platt's 'Black Magic and Purple Passion' and on other gardening books and black plants purchased through the society which has the biggest source of dark plants. Members also receive discounts on cards and other gifts featuring black plants.

The IBPS was founded in 2002 and has members in 7 countries. The society plans trips and regional groups. Membership is currently 20 pounds per year. Visit http://www.blackplants.co.uk
