Frequently asked questions
about chelsea-flower-show.com
|
We have listed here some
of the questions we have been asked in the past, but please feel free
to Email us if you have any questions not covered here
|
- 1. When was the site first started?
- In 2005.
- 2. What was the motivation for setting up the site.
- As an exhibitor at Chelsea for 3 years, and also a website designer, I was conscious that
there was no good list of Chelsea exhibitors on the web. It seemed to me that such a list would be
useful to visitors planning a visit to the show, to visitors who had been to last year's show who had
forgotten or mislaid the name of someone they saw there. Since there was no sign of anyone else
setting up such a website, I decided that my company, Internetworks Ltd, should set one up.
- 3. What is the connection between chelsea-floweer-show.com and the Royal Horticultural Society.
- There isn't one. Before the site was launched, we suggested that we should run it under licence
from the RHS, but no response was forthcoming. Since then, we have regularly suggested other forms of
co-operation, including transferring ownership of the site to the RHS, operating the site as the agent of the RHS,
etc. (We are, after all, website professionals) We have not had a positive response to any of these
suggestions. Since there are obvious advantages to us, to the RHS, and most importantly to exhibitors
in having closer links, we hope that one of these suggestions may be taken up by the RHS in the future.
- 4. How are the categories chosen?
- Initially, we used the same categories as the Chelsea Flower Show catalogue. But some subscribers
asked to be put in a new category because they did not fit well into any of the ones we originally
had, and we have responded to these requests by creating new categories when requested.
- 5. Why do you only give Email links for most of the exhibitors.
- We want the site to be a comprehensive list of exhibitors, and we want to give visitors to
our site some opportunity to contact any exhibitor they wish. But we have to raise some revenue
to make maintaining the site viable, so we ask exhibitors to pay if they want more extended listings.
- 6. How do you ensure that the listings are accurate?
- The listings are compiled from published sources, so we cannot be
certain that all the details are accurate. We take every reasonable
precaution to ensure that we do not introduce any errors, and if any
errors are pointed out to us, we will of course immediately correct
them.
- 7. How do you manage to get the #1 spot on Google for search terms like "Chelsea exhibitors"
- We are still the only site on the web with a comprehensive list of exhibitors at the Chelsea
Flower Show, and that must be the main reason. And another important one is that we are only concerned
with the exhibitors at the show, and not with any of the other lovely things which happen at the
Chelsea Flower Show or elsewhere.
